  • Is this a joke?

No. You can send your message on potatoes. To anyone, for any occasion. Whether it is a birthday, you are sorry, it is an eviction etc.

  • Where do you ship to?

    Only the UK.

  • How long does it take to ship the potatoes?

1-3 days, depending on the time of day when the potato is posted, they are sent within 24 hours of purchase and we use Royal Mail.

  • How big are the potatoes?

The size of the potato is relative to the size of the message.

We use maris peer potatoes, they are around the size of a clneched fist. Some are smaller and some are bigger. They were chosen so they are more likely to fit through a letter box.

We also use jacket potatoes and sweet potatoes, again depening on which potato product you use.

    They weigh between: 50-100 grams (1.7 - 3.1 OZ).

  • How anonymous is the potato?

It can be as anonymous as you want it to be.

We do not collect your billing address, and unless you specificy it on the message that's going to be written on the potato- the peson that gets the potato will not know who sent it.

  • Why would I spend around £4.23 on a potato?

    1) When you want it to be anonymous: they may recognise your handwriting.

    2) You know when you sent it, therefore you know when it will roughly arrive. It is less of a surprise for you that way.

    3) We have perfected the process of getting a potato from an order to your doorstep. We know how long it will take, which type of potato to use, what kind of packaging and the postage costs.

  • What personal details do you need / take?

We need the sender's email address, so we can keep up to date with the progress of your potato. We also need your payment details, but we do not need your billing address.

We need the recipitenat's address, so we know where to send the potato.

Please rememebr: we do not need a billing address.

  • Why potatoes?

Bananas are fragile and can be squished in the post and apples bruise and carrots rot quick.

Potatoes are strong, they have plenty of room to write on and big enough for you to take a picture of.

  • Aren't you wasting food?

Potatoes are more renewable as opposed to cards. UK household wastes 7 trees worth of paper a year. Potatoes take 50 days to grow while the average for a tree is 10 years.

And besides, potatoes recycle themselves- they are guaranteed to be biodegradeable.

  • How is my potato shipped?

    We use Royal Mail.

The free postage is 2nd class small parcel (£2.85), you have a choice of upgrading to Royal Mail 1st Class and to Signed for Special Delivery if you want it the next day.

  • Do you do returns/ refunds?

Refunds and returns are on a case by case basis. No guarantees are given, due to the perishable nature of the potato.

  • Can I eat my potato?

Potato in the Post does not recommend you eat the potato upon arrival. Potato In The Post bears no responsibility for anyone eating the potato once it has arrived. Although, the pens used to write on the potatoes are AP-certified non toxic, more information can be found here.

  • How long do the potatoes last?

Potatoes last longer than cards. Typically 8 weeks, if kept outside of direct sunlight and in a cool place with a lot of ventilation. They will become soft, this is natural. They will become wrinkled, but the message on them is just as legible. The message may become worn off if handled a lot.

  • How do I store my potato?

In a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight that is well ventilated.

  • Where do you get your potatoes from?

We use organic grown in Britain; Cornwall, Norwich or Northumberland.

  • I do not have a paypal account. How can I pay?

There is an option to use your debit / credit card to pay when you are at the PayPal Checkout. But we also accept major debit and credit cards via Worldpay.

  • Can you delete my data (email address, address etc)?

Once the order has been shipped you can request your personal data (email, address etc) to be deleted from our system. Contact us at with such a request and the order number.

  • My payment and shipping address is the same. Why?

We don't collect payment addresses. You are only need to know where the potato needs to go.

Their address is in the payment address because of the way Worldpay (our payment processor) works.

No invoices will be sent to them- only your potato.
